The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is one of Ohio’s premier family attractions and conservation organizations, welcoming visitors from across the state, nation, and around the world. To better understand its broader impact on Ohio and the Columbus Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), the Columbus Zoo engaged Silverlode Consulting to conduct an economic impact study of the Zoo, Zoombezi Bay, and Safari Golf Club. The study measured the economic activity generated through operations, capital investments, and visitor spending in the surrounding communities, providing a comprehensive picture of the organization’s contributions to Ohio’s economy and tourism industry.
The study demonstrated that the Zoo’s impact extends far beyond its campus, supporting businesses, jobs, and communities throughout Ohio, while attracting visitors who generate spending at local hotels, restaurants, retailers, and other establishments in the Columbus MSA. The Columbus Zoo uses the report to highlight its role as a key economic driver, helping communicate its value to stakeholders, community partners, and local policymakers. The findings provide objective, data-driven evidence of the organization’s contributions to their local community and Ohio’s economy and tourism sector.
